Father Kirk's Daily Lenten Reflection
5th Sunday of Lent: April 3, 2022
Right after he was elected Pope, His Holiness, Pope Francis made this profound statement, and it is an excellent reflection for us as this Lenten season slowly draws to a close:
“Following Christ always must include the cross … when we attempt to walk without the cross; when we attempt to build without the cross; and when we attempt to profess Christ without the cross – we are not disciples of the Lord. Yes … we are worldly. Yes … we continue to be who we are … but we are not disciples of the Lord. I would like that all of us might have the courage – the courage – to walk in the presence of the Lord, with the cross of the Lord: to build the Church on the Blood of the Lord, which is shed on the cross, and to profess the one glory, Christ crucified. My hope is that the Holy Spirit, that the prayers of our Lady, might grant us that grace: to walk, to build, to profess Jesus Christ crucified.”
And in the spirit of the gospel story of the adulterous woman let us strive like Jesus to always always be merciful. Let us pick up the cross, walk in the presence of the Lord, and generously show mercy.
