David Ifkovits joined our staff as Music Director in August 2016. David is currently the Chairman of the Music Department at Archmere Academy and previously the Director of Music & Worship at the Church of the Holy Child. David is a well-known and noted organist, composer, choral and orchestral conductor, and vocalist.
The Adult Choir of Saint Mary Magdalen will resume rehearsals on Thursday, September 5, 2024 from 7:00-9:00 pm. Rehearsals will take place in the choir loft. We would like to invite new members from high school age to adult to join us.
It is NOT necessary for you to be an accomplished singer, or even be able to read music. All that is needed is the desire to be part of a very special, unique and integral ministry of the parish. All skills and techniques needed are taught at rehearsals. If you have often thought of joining this group, now is the time to give it a try.
If you feel that your schedule will not permit you to attend every rehearsal or Sunday Liturgy, we are a flexible group and realize that people have lives. We will accommodate your schedule.
If you are still not sure if this ministry is right for you, come to a rehearsal and see for yourself. Bring a spouse, a friend, a son or daughter along for support.
The choir sings at the 10:30 Sunday liturgy from October to June, and for special liturgies. We will also be singing at the Diocesan Eucharistic Congress in October and in May 2025, we will have the honor of singing in Carnegie Hall for the premier of Michael John Trotta’s “Requiem.” In December we will once again have our annual Candlelight Vespers where the choir is joined by the Mastersingers of Archmere Academy and accompanied by full orchestra.
For further information please feel free to speak with David Ifkovits, Director of Music, after Mass in the choir loft, or if you know someone who is currently a member of the choir, please speak to them. They can also help you with any information that you might need and answer any questions that you might have.
Cantors are both singers and facilitators of congregational song. A cantor must be able to sing in tune, and possess an understanding of the order of the liturgy, as well as different styles of liturgical music and singing.
Previous experience is helpful, but not necessary. An informal interview and audition is required. If interested please contact David Ifkovits or call the parish office at 302-652-6800.
