Policies
Curriculum - the texts we use are based on the curriculum provided by the Diocese of Wilmington for all religious education programs. All texts are examined by an ad hoc committee from the United States Council of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) for conformity to the catechism. View Our Curriculum for general religious instruction. We are also required to teach For the Sake of God's Children (the charter developed in light of the abuse crisis). Most of the required information is part of regular lessons.
ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL
Respect social distancing for arrival and dismissal.
For arriving, we will have a moving car line out FRONT at the Sharpley Road entrance. You will pull up, stop, let your child out, and they will enter the building.
For dismissal, catechists will bring the children to the MAIN entrance in the rear, beginning with the older children and ending with the younger. Only children will go to their parents’ car, but those with younger siblings will wait to the side under the portico until their younger sibling appears so that they can walk together to the car.
Parents/guardians are required to remain an appropriate distance from the school
building/meeting space or in their vehicles at dismissal if possible.
A volunteer will be at the entrance door during PREP to monitor.
If a student requires an early dismissal, a request must be made in writing and an aide will bring them to the assigned door for dismissal. The parent may not enter the building.
An 80% attendance must be maintained in order for a student to pass to the next class level. With family days, it is a 2-hour class, so they count for twice what a regular class does. The diocese requires 30 hours of intentional catechesis, so if you attended only your regular classes and no family days you would not have anywhere near the required number! This is especially important in the 2 years prior to receiving a sacrament (1st & 2nd Grades for Eucharist, 7th & 8th Grades for Confirmation), when a 90% attendance is required. If you have an issue for a dual family or other situation, please contact the DRE about materials for makeup sessions and home schooling. All of our lesson calendars are on the website now, so you can also see what lesson they are supposed to do that week, and go to either Sadlier Connect for grades k-6 or www.gospelweeklies.com for grades Pre-K & K,, 7-8 and find materials for the missed lesson! Contact Mrs. Yasik with any questions!
Behavior - all students are expected to behave in a way that does not prevent anyone else in the class from learning about their faith. If necessary, a catechist will fill out an incident report, which will be given to the DRE for her discretion.
Drugs & Alcohol - any items of this nature found in the possession of a student are grounds for expulsion.
Medications - teachers are not permitted to administer medications (other than those of an emergency nature, such as an epi-pen) to your child.
Weather Conditions - If class is cancelled for any reason, the information will be on both the answering machine message (652-7141) and on WDEL radio (1150AM). If we know far enough in advance, we will also e-mail all parents, and use the remind texting system - see info at top of page to join!
