- We would like to wish all of our parishioners a very MERRY CHRISTMAS! May you all have a blessed, joyful, and restorative new year!
- Knights of Columbus Youth Free Throw Championship All girls and boys ages 9 to 14 are invited by the Bishop Curtis Council to participate in a competition for the Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship. The local competition will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at 10AM (doors open at 9:30AM) in the SMM Gym. Registration will take place prior to 10AM on the day of the event. Please contact Dan Conaty at (302)-753-0603 with any questions. There is no cost to participate.
- Online Angel Gift Donation If you were unable to get an Angel Gift tag in Mass or simply find it easier to donate online, you are able to donate gift cards which will go to the St. Paul's Outreach Center families through our Angel Gift Program. Donate here.
- Candlelight Advent Vespers Join us on Thursday, December 19th at 7pm for our annual Candlelight Vespers with the Music Ministry of SMM & Archmere Academy Master Singers. There will be no daily mass this day.
- Girl Scout Fundraiser The girls of Troop 771 have been scouting together for over 10 years. Before they enter their Senior year of high school, they want to celebrate their experiences together with a trip this spring to Savannah, GA, the birthplace of Girl Scouting. To help raise funds for their trip, the girls will be selling baked goods after Masses, as well as wrapping presents in exchange for a goodwill donation, on December 7th, 8th, 14th, 21st, and 22nd in the church hall. On December 15th, gift wrapping will only be available after the 10:30am Mass. Thank you for your support!
- Bambinelli Blessing Bring your Bambinelli, the baby Jesus from your Manger, on Sunday, December 15th at the 8:30am Mass for a special blessing that mirrors the one Pope Francis does in Rome. After Mass, we will host a Bambinelli coffee and donuts, crafts in the church hall. There will be pictures with Santa available with a photographer. Please RSVP for this event by December 12th. - Angel Gift Tags Our angel gift tags will be available at all masses this weekend. They will be hanging in the main vestibule. Please return the requested gift with the angel gift tag TAPED ON YOUR UNWRAPPED GIFT to the church by Sunday, Dec. 15th before the 10:30am Mass. Late gifts may miss intended recipients.
- Advent Wreath Lighting Volunteers We are looking for families to assist with the lighting of the Advent wreath prior to our weekend Masses during Advent. Please sign up here.

- Christingle Kits During the 1st weekend of Advent, children will receive a Christingle kit to put together at home. Inside it will include a little white candle tied with a red ribbon, gumdrops, toothpicks, etc. Oranges will be available in the main vestibule and two side entrances. The kits will be available for pick up after Masses on the weekend of November 30th & December 1st.

- Christmas Tree Blessing & Lighting Join us on Saturday, November 30th after the 4:30 p.m. Mass for our parish Christmas Tree Blessing & Lighting in the prayer garden. We will provide drinks & snacks. This is a family friendly event. Please register by Tuesday, November 26th!
- Advent Wreath Making Kits Advent Wreath making kits will be available again this year! Orders must be placed by Monday, November 25th. If you ordered, please pick up your Advent Wreath supply bag in the main vestibule of church the first weekend of Advent (November 30th & December 1st).
- Thanksgiving Donations Please help us with Thanksgiving Donations for Ronald McDonald House. If you are able to donate individual items, please view our item list here. All donations are due back to the Church Vestibule or parish office by Monday, November 25th.
- Bishop's 5K Bishop's 5K will take place this Saturday, November 23rd at St. Mark's High School from 9am-11am. SMM is a Parish Believer Sponsor of the 5K.
- Thanksgiving Day Mass Thanksgiving Day Mass will be held on Thursday November 28 at 10:00 a.m. We will be distributing blessed bread from Serpes Bakery. One loaf per family please. Sign up here to reserve a loaf of bread by Sunday, November 24th.
- Turkey Vouchers Will you help a family in need have their Thanksgiving dinner? $15 will cover the cost of a turkey for families in our neighboring community. Donate a turkey today!

- SMM Ladies' Night The SMM Ladies Night presents Away in a Manger - Christmas with The Chosen on November 18th in the church hall. Share some fellowship with friends as we enjoy the movie, Christmas with The Chosen. Bring a snack to share, bring a friend, bring your family members, but please let us know that you're planning to attend so we can set a place at the table for you. - Veterans Day Prayer Service We will be holding a prayer service for all veterans on Monday, November 11, 2024 at 2 p.m. Please complete our form if you plan to attend and/or want to submit the name of a deceased veteran that you would like to have remembered during this prayer service.
- Ulster Project Delaware Paint Night Join Ulster Project Delaware for their fundraiser on Saturday, November 9th in the church hall for Paint Night. The cost is $40 per person which includes all the supplies needed to paint a snowman porch leaner on a wooden board. Tickets must be purchased in advance here. - Unwanted Halloween Candy? If you have any extra or unwanted Halloween candy, please bring it to church in a bag marked Stocking for Soldiers and put it on the table in the main vestibule or the parish office. It will be dropped off to Stockings for Soldiers so they can include some goodies in the Christmas care packages. Our last day of collection will be Thursday, November 7th.

- Memorial Vespers Please join us on Sunday, November 3rd at 3 p.m. for a special afternoon prayer service in remembrance of the faithfully departed. We remember especially those that have been listed in the Book of the Dead for the past year, from Oct. 2023 – Sept. 2024. There will be wooden crosses, each with the name of a person listed in our book. At the end of the service family members may take these crosses home to keep.
- Relics of St. Padre Pio We are pleased to share with you that SMM will be hosting relics of St. Padre Pio on Friday, November 1st. During the veneration, you will be able to view 5 of his relics: Saint Pio's white glove, a lock of Saint Pio's hair, Saint Pio's handkerchief used during the Mass to wipe his tears, Saint Pio's crusts of his wounds and a piece of Saint Pio's mantle. You will also be able to purchase devotional items and write down prayer intentions for St. Padre Pio.
- Trunk or Treat SMM Parish will be holding our 5th Annual Trunk or Treat on Sunday, October 27th from 11:30am to 12:30pm in our parish parking lot. Set up will begin at 11:15am. You must pre-register for this event. Registration will close on Thursday 10/24 at 6pm.

- Flag Retirement Ceremony The scouts of St. Mary Magdalen will hold a Flag Retirement Ceremony on Sunday, October 20th at 11:15am on the Rectory Lawn. The community is welcome to attend this event. Flags that are no longer fit to be flown will be properly retired. Each flag is retired in the name of a deceased veteran. If you would like a deceased member of the Armed Forces remembered at our service, please complete this form.
- Parish Office Hours The parish office will be closed in observance of the holiday on Monday, October 14th. We will resume regular hours on Tuesday, October 15th.
- Knights of Columbus Please support the Knights of Columbus in gathering items for the Bayard House. The Bayard House is run by the Catholic Charities and provides 24/7 care for at risk and newly parenting young women and their babies. Please view our bulletin for a list of items that will be collected on October 12th and 13th. Please drop off any donations in the St. Mary Magdalen Vestibule.
- SMM School Open House SMM School open house will be held on Wednesday, October 9th at 9:00 AM and again at 6:00 PM. There will be a welcome meeting followed by individual school tours!

- Blessing of the Animals Join us on October 4th, on the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, for our annual animal blessing on the rectory lawn from 2-2:30pm. Please have your pets on a leash or in a carrier for their safety.
- Fall Food Drive Our fall food drive will be in partnership with Aldersgate again this year. Black bags will be distributed on the weekend of September 21 & 22. The bags should be returned at Masses on September 28, 29, or October 6th. Please place the bags in the main vestibule of the church when returning. Thank you!

- Delmarva Blood Drive Sunday, September 22, 2024 SMM will be holding a mobile blood drive in the school parking lot from 9am to 2pm. If you are able to give, reserve your time slot here!
- Mass Intentions Our Mass Intentions Book for 2025 is now OPEN! You are able to reserve intentions online or in person. You are able to reserve a maximum of 5 masses. Click here to learn more about how to reserve a mass intention.
- Adult Choir Rehearsals We are happy to announce that the Adult Choir of Saint Mary Magdalen will resume rehearsals on Thursday, September 5, 2024 from 7:00-9:00 pm. Rehearsals will take place in the choir loft. We would like to invite new members from high school age to adult to join us. We have openings in all voice parts and could especially use a few more men’s voices. - INTERESTED IN BECOMING A LECTOR? Lectors are parishioners dedicated to reading the Scripture during Mass. Any parishioner who has a good speaking voice is eligible. We use a scheduling system which makes it easy for you to sign-up, pick-up masses, and request a substitute when you can’t make it. - BackPack Blessing Students are encouraged to bring their backpack to the 4:30pm Mass on Saturday, August 24th or both Masses on Sunday, August 25th for the Blessing of Backpacks. Students will receive a thoughtfully created ID tag for their backpack! Please join us for coffee and donuts following the 8:30 Mass on Sunday, August 25 in the church hall! - Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Thursday, August 15th is the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. We invite you to celebrate this Holy Day of Obligation with us at our 8:30am Mass and 6:00pm Mass. If you need to attend mass at a different time, please consider the other local parish mass times: IHM - 6:30am, 9am, and 7pm; Holy Child - 9am and 5:30pm; St. Joe's on the Brandywine - 12:05pm and 7pm.
- Extended Care Program Aides We are looking to hire for our after school extended care program. Please spread the word if you or anyone you know is looking for a flexible afternoon hours with holidays and weekends off! The hours would be 2:15pm - 5:45pm Monday through Friday. - Catholic Youth Ministry Day Catholic Youth Ministry invites everyone to join them for Catholic Youth Ministry Day at the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Sunday, August 18th at 1:05 p.m. More information can be found here.
- Reception After 8:30am Mass July 28 We will be having a small reception for our departing school principal, Patrick Tiernan, on Sunday July 28th. Please join us after the 8:30am Mass for light refreshments and a chance to say your goodbyes and well wishes!
- Midsummer Wine & Cheese Join us for our Midsummer Wine and Cheese Event on Sunday, July 21, 2024 (in the prayer garden) immediately following the 10:30am Mass. This is a family friendly event & it is free! We ask that everyone pre-register so that we can plan accordingly. Please register here. Registration will close Thursday, July 18th.
- Summer Mass and Playdate Beginning on June 20th, and taking place on subsequent Thursdays throughout the summer, we will be hosting a Mass and playdate opportunity for all children and their caregivers. We will begin with 8:30 AM Mass and have a playdate on the school playground immediately following. For Mass, we will plan to sit in the front right area of the church, so please plan to meet us there. This event is open to parishioners and non- parishioners alike. - Collection of Flags for Retirement When an American Flag becomes worn or torn there is etiquette for its proper disposal. If you would like your old flag to be properly disposed of by the scouts, place it in the container in the main vestibule.

- Prayers For Eileen Grant Our beloved long-time parish receptionist is experiencing some difficult health issues. Her surgery went well and she is doing well. She will have a long recovery ahead of her so please continue to keep her and her husband Charlie in your prayers.
- Jazzercise Jazzercise is at St. Mary Magdalen this summer! Classes begin June 17th! Jazzercise is a combination of aerobic exercise and dance fitness. Safe and effective for all fitness levels incorporating strength training in every class! Classes are Monday and Tuesday from 9-10am and Fridays 8:30am. Walk-in class is $20, which can be paid by cash or check at the door. You can also purchase classes online at Jazzercise.com. - Unannounced Mass Intentions Our 2024 Mass Intention Book is full. If you would like to still purchase a mass intention, please complete the form on our mass intention page. All the mass intentions will be sent to a priest in the Diocese of Wilmington as an unannounced mass intention. The mass intention will not be said at a Mass at St. Mary Magdalen Parish. - Fall 2024 Sports Registration Registration is now open for the Fall 2024 sports season. Cross Country grades 3rd-8th (boys and girls). Volleyball grades 4th-8th (girls). - Vacation Bible School Donations Each year, we manage to keep the price of our Vacation Bible School program low because of all of the donations our families bring in! If you are able to donate, please view the list of needed items here. We appreciate all your help!
- Corpus Christi Please join us at the 10:30am Mass on Sunday, June 2nd as we celebrate the feast of Corpus Christi. Following the mass, we will make a 1/2 mile procession to act as a witness to the Eucharistic faith and the gratitude that God is with us and our community. Register here.
- Parish Office Hours Our parish office will be closed on Friday, May 31st, due to the passing of Leontia L. Kirk. We understand that this may cause inconvenience, and we sincerely appreciate your understanding and support during this time. We will resume regular hours next week. Please keep the Kirk family in your prayers. All services will be held at Saint Peter the Apostle Church, on 5th Street in Old New Castle, on Friday May 31st. Visitation will begin in the church at 9:30 am with the Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11 am. Burial will immediately follow in the Glebe Cemetery.

- Children's Liturgy of the Word The last Children's Liturgy of the Word before the summer break will be Sunday, May 26th at the 8:30am Mass. Children will be invited to come down to the church hall for singing, prayer, and hearing God's Word. They will rejoin their families in church before Holy Communion.
- Bingo Our last bingo before the summer break will be May 30th.
- May Crowning 2024 Our May Crowning service is on Monday, May 13th at 2pm. Additionally, the Blessed Mother statue will be placed at the center aisle for all weekend masses. Any parishioners who would like to participate in the tradition of honoring the Blessed Mother by bringing flowers & placing them at her feet are welcome to do so at any of the Masses.
- Baccalaureate Mass Join us on Saturday, May 18th at the 4:30pm Mass to celebrate a Baccalaureate Mass for the SMM Parish Graduating Class of 2020 as they graduate high school. If you are an SMM Parish Alumni of the Class of 2020 and plan on attending the SMM Baccalaureate Mass, please RSVP by May 12th, 2024.
- Mother's Day Rose Sale Birthright of DE will host its Annual Mother's Day Rose Sale at SMM after all Masses on Mother's Day Weekend, May 11 & 12. Purchase roses for Mom or simply make a donation to support their crisis pregnancy center. You can also make a donation to Birthright in lieu of purchasing roses. Your help will truly make a difference, thank you!
- Delmarva Blood Drive Saturday May 25, 2024 SMM will be holding a mobile blood drive in the school gym from 9am to 2pm. If you are able to give, reserve your time slot now!
- Coffee & Donuts Knights of Columbus The Knights of Columbus will be hosting a coffee & donuts in the church hall this Sunday, May 5th after the 8:30am Mass to recognize the winners of their Mother's Day Essay Contest.
- Are you looking for a way to deepen your faith? Consider becoming a catechist for the 2024-2025 school year! Classes for students in non-Catholic schools are on Sundays from 9:30-10:55 (there are three 9:30-11:30 Sundays) with holiday weekends off; we begin in September and end by Palm Sunday. We are in need of catechists for both our Kindergarten and our 5th and 6th grade classes. If you are interested, please contact Karen Yasik and see how teaching children makes your own faith grow!
- Spring Wine & Cheese Event Our Spring Wine and Cheese Event is planned for Saturday, April 27, 2024 immediately following 4:30 Mass in the Prayer Garden. - Parish Holiday Hours The Parish Office will be closed for the Easter holiday beginning on Wednesday, March 27th and will reopen on Monday, April 8th.
- Annual Easter Egg Hunt St. Mary Magdalen will be holding an Easter Egg Hunt on Easter Sunday, March 31st, after the 10:30am Mass on our rectory lawn. You must pre-register for this event by Tuesday, March 26.
- Reconciliation Monday Prepare your heart for Easter. Join us for confession on Monday, March 25th. Confessions will be heard from 3-8pm throughout the Diocese at all churches.
- Palm Sunday Coffee & Donuts Please join us on Sunday, March 24th at the 8:30am Mass to celebrate Palm Sunday. Coffee & Donuts will be served after Mass in the church hall. Please sign up here to volunteer.
- Palm Sunday Procession Children attending mass on Sunday, March 24th are invited to be part of the Palm Sunday Procession with Father Kirk. Children will enter the procession, behind the Cross bearer, and walk forward bearing Palms. Father Kirk will perform the opening to Mass, bless the palms and provide the opening prayer. After the prayer, children will then follow the leader carrying the Lectionary towards the back of the church, as usual. Parents are welcome to process with their children if they might need encouragement. If joining the procession, please meet in the vestibule around 8:20am.
- Marian Stations We will hold Marian Stations Saturday, March 16 at 9am after daily Mass. These stations, sometimes called Mary’s Way of the Cross, attempt to present that viewpoint. In these stations, we see through Mary’s eyes what Jesus was going through on the way of Calvary.
- Walk To Easter 2024 The Walk to Easter program traces the steps of Jesus during Holy Week, from Palm Sunday to Easter. This year it will be held on March 29th from 8:45am - 12 pm. Children ages 4-11 will experience the mysteries of our faith through storytelling, music, and art. We need volunteers help to run this program. To register & learn more please click here.
- Easter Egg Hunt Donations Help us to prepare for our annual Easter Egg Hunt. Please sign-up to purchase and stuff eggs. Stuffed eggs can be dropped off at church, the parish office, school or during Prep by March 26th. Students can also receive service credits for this activity!
- Reconciliation Monday Greeters We need greeters and hosts for Reconciliation Monday on March 25th from 3pm - 8pm. Many people come for the Sacrament of Penance this day and we need some volunteers to assist providing hospitality and direction. Please sign up here to volunteer.

- Funeral Planning Workshop Saint Mary Magdalen Parish is hosting a funeral planning event with 4 funeral homes: Chandler, McCreary-Harra, Mealey, and Spicer-Mulikin. We will have a brief presentation by Father Kirk about our parish funeral planning guide, introduce the attending funeral homes, and allow time for you to browse and ask questions of them. This event is scheduled for Sunday, April 14, 2024, from 11:30 am (following the 10:30 Mass) until 12:30 pm. Lunch will be provided. Please register here by Wednesday, March 13th.

- The Little Sisters of the Poor Little Sisters of the Poor will be visiting St. Mary Magdalen Church for Mass the weekend of February 17th and 18th.
- Brandywine Hundred Deanery Catholic Lecture Series The Brandywine Hundred DLT invites you to join us for a Catholic lecture series to deepen faith and inspire outreach to our friends and family this Lent. The lectures will be held via zoom and it will also be shown in the church hall. The first lecture is Tuesday, February 13th at 7pm with Dr. Christopher Kaczor on How to Be Happier. He will talk about the worst time of his life and how things changed for the better. It will explore insights from psychology, philosophy, and spirituality for becoming happier. - Annual Wedding Anniversary Mass Bishop William E. Koenig invites all couples celebrating their 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 30th, 40th, 45th, 50th wedding anniversary or any anniversary beyond 50th to the annual Wedding Anniversary Mass being held on World Marriage Sunday, February 11, 2024 at 1pm at St. Margaret of Scotland Church in Newark, DE. - Scout Sunday Please join us on Sunday, February 4th at the 8:30am Mass to celebrate our Boy and Cub Scouts. Coffee & Donuts will be served after Mass in the church hall. Cub and Boy Scouts can sign up to help with mass duties and coffee and donuts here.
- Feast of St. Blaise Saturday, February 2nd is the Feast of St. Blaise, the patron saint of throat illnesses. Blessing of Throats will take place at the 8:30AM daily mass on Friday, Feb. 2nd. We will also offer this blessing at weekend Masses on February 3rd and 4th.
- Catholic Schools Week 2024 Catholic Schools Week will kick off the weekend of January 27th and 28th. Students will be involved in the various ministries during Mass. There will be a Coffee and Donuts after the 8:30am Mass in the church hall.
- SMM Open House SMM School will have an Open House on Sunday, January 28th from 9am to 12pm. Please come visit our school! Prospective, current, alumni, and parish families are encouraged to walk our halls to see Catholic education in action. Guided tours available from current school students. We hope we see you there!
- St. Paul’s Letter to the Romans Class Sunday, January 28th from 2-4pm, as part of Catholic Schools Week, we will offer a special class on St. Paul’s Letter to the Romans taught by Principal Tiernan. The class will offer an overview of St. Paul’s most comprehensive letter. We will also consider the interpretation of key passages against the backdrop of the Pauline canon. Participants will develop a deeper appreciation for Scripture and its role in their faith journey. Refreshments and study materials will be provided at no cost to participants. It is recommended but not required that you read the letter beforehand. Please RSVP by January 25th by emailing [email protected] or calling (302) 656- 2745, ext. 126 to confirm your seat.

- Tax Donation Letters The 2023 tax donation letters will be sent via email on Friday, January 12th to all parishioners that have previously requested for annual statements to be sent each year. If you didn't receive a letter last year and would like a 2023 tax donation letter sent via email, please contact Kylie Lavelle or call the parish office 302-652-6800 to request to have a tax donation letter automatically emailed each year.
- Epiphany Blessing Kits Epiphany blessing kits will be available at all weekend Masses on January 6 & 7 at the side exits. They will include a home prayer, blessed hay, and chalk to mark your home.

- Mary, Mother of God Holy Day We have Mass on Monday, January 1, 2024 at 8:30am with Father McVoy to celebrate. All are welcome!
